Lifting The Ban on Same-Sex Marriage in The State of Texas: Why it Matters

The purpose of this post is to discuss the ban on same-sex marriage in the state of Texas, discuss my personal opinion on why I think it's important, and to garner support for the petition to lift the ban. The issue of same-sex marriage is on the forefront of American politics, today fourteen states have legalized same-sex marriage or some variation of it. However, despite this fact one cannot mention same-sex marriage with inciting controversy. Despite what is said about about society becoming more accepting of homosexuality, the fact that the mere mention of the topic can illicit such strong negative responses from people shows we still have a long way to go. I was watching the movie Lincoln one day and something that was said on the movie stuck with me, "Things that are equal to the same thing, are equal to each other". In my opinion the only way that Gays and Lesbians will be equal is when they are given the same rights and amenities as everyone else. The state of Texas has a long history of discrimination against minorities, incorporating laws legislation such as Jim Crow laws, Black Codes, Anti-sodomy laws, and a death penalty which targets
minorities. While the majority of the nation is on board with the struggle for equality, and continuing the fight against discrimination on all front Texas stagnates in the past. Discrimination is no laughing matter, and the blatant prejudice and discrimination that is widespread in the lone star state has to stop! This petition aims to address one of the main forms of discrimination in Texas, Sexual discrimination. I look forward to reading all available comments and to hear what everyone else has to say. Below is a direct link highlighted in white that will lead you to the petition home page. In order for this petition to be successful and much needed change I need your support.
